History

In the 1980s the brand was revolutionised by Miuccia Prada, granddaughter of the founder, and her husband Patrizio Bertelli. The pair launched an iconic line of contemporary, nylon bags which proved to be an immediate success, and paved the way for global prominence.

It was Prada’s creative talent and cutting-edge approach, coupled with Bertelli’s visionary and daring entrepreneurial ability, which brought new lustre to the company and led to its international expansion, as well as its public flotation in 2009.

Designed for a contemporary woman with a strong character, Prada’s first ready-to-wear women’s collection debuted in 1988. Since then the fashion house has expanded its offering to include menswear and sportswear. It has also made numerous additions to its long-standing flagship accessories range, which now includes handbags, shoes, eyewear, cosmetics, fragrance and technology.

Keen supporters of innovation and continuous development, the brand’s strong values have led to its interests beyond the fashion world. In 1993 the Prada Foundation was established to support young artists and cultural talent through the organisation of exhibitions and events. At the turn of the millennium Prada became the official sponsor of the Luna Rossa team, aligning its image with the world of sailing and sports competition.
