In 1948, Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana founded Herno in Lesa, a small village on the banks of the Lago Maggiore, only a few steps away from the Erno River. The name of the river inspired the name for the company. According to Claudio Marenzi, son of the founder, his father “felt that the ‘r’ within the word Erno needed to be in the middle of the word. Henceforth, he placed an ‘h’ and created Herno”.
The company initially focused on the production of raincoats that would combine functionality and style. Waterproof fabrics had not yet been invented and Herno used castor oil to make the fabric waterproof. In the 60’s, while already acknowledged as among the best manufacturers of raincoats, the brand started to specialize in the manufacture of double faced fabrics created by sewing together two separate layers of textiles.
In 2007, the company began to work with the finest goose down material and soon became the go-to brand for quilted jackets and padded coats for men and women.
Today Herno exports worldwide and is known to combine Italian tradition and style with luxury, high performing fabrics.Style notes
