2021 in colors

We said goodbye to 2020 with a sense of relief, and welcomed 2021 with the hope that it would give us back our lives, our freedom, some feeling of security and, most importantly, planning. Sentiments apparently shared at every latitude, so much so that the Pantone Color Institute researchers have distilled them into the two Pantone colors of the year 2021.

Every year, the whole world of design, from fashion to furniture, from graphics to beauty, awaits the presentation of the Pantone color of the year, which expresses, in the language of colors, the mood of society, brings together the moods and the movements that meander up and down the globe and translates them, visually, into a trend that will guide the choices of creatives for the next 12 months. Well, this year the colors are two: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. It already happened in 2016, and this year more than ever the combination is a happy one, both chromatically and symbolically. It is the partnership between a solid, lasting and reliable gray and a bright yellow of hope and vitality. Between the need for certainties, for stable and resilient things like stones on the seashore, and the unstoppable impulse towards optimism and planning. A combo color that is both classic and bold and which we, at THEBS, welcome and interpret with great enthusiasm.

Gray and yellow together speak of a modern elegance: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen knows this well and has designed this shirt that needs little else.

If yellow can create apprehension at times, keep it simple: a total gray choker is as easy and refreshing as a laugh.

Here, on the other hand, the look is all sports, yet Thom Browne's Bermuda shorts give a touch of sophistication proper to a true connoisseur.

Finally, sweatshirt, caban and sneakers, but with flannel trousers.
