Arts and Foods. Rituals since 1851 - The Expo exhibition in Milan

The concept of Expo 2015, the international event that takes place in Milan until November 1st, is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

Within this frame, Triennale di Milano hosts official exhibition of Expo 2015, Arts and Food. Ritual since 1851, curated by Germano Celant and covering 7,000 square meters. The exhibition showcases 2,000 works among paintings, sculptures, installations, pieces of design, furniture, films, records, tv programs and objects that tell about the human relationship with food and anything related to it.

This exhibition is a worlwide journey through the food and its habits in mass culture and in elite environment displayed in fifteen different settings all located at the Triennale and its garden and that are designed by Italo Rota and refined by the graphics of Irma Boom.

There is also a special itinerary “exclusively" conceived for children, a route of different heights where the food theme is told with toys and art pieces, such as the 93 paintings by Andy Warhol, that have been thought for a young audience,

The entire exhibition follows a chronological order and starts from Impressionism and avant-garde movements to arrive to our times with works from the most relevant contemporary artists, such as the The Chromatic Diet (1998) of Sophie Calle, the Igloo of  Bread (1989) of Mario Merz and the Paul McCarthy’s Daddies Tomato Ketchup Inflatable (2007). There are also some references to fashion with the Pleats Please by Essey Miyake 2008 campaign or Moschino Mc Donald's inspired garments of the Fall Winter 2014-2015 collection.

And even if the food is just represented and it is not real, the visitors will feel replenished thanks to the hand-written messages full of poetic quips that the Italian intellectual Gabriele D’Annunzio was used to leave to his cook suggesting what to prepare or observing the rich details of a Richard Ginori tea set.

Arts and Foods is a multi sensorial experience, capable to feed the eyes of the visitors and of guiding them through the discovery of  the pleasure of food even just with the sight.
